About Victorian Concussion Network.

Bendigo and Ballarat Concussion Clinics are the first concussion specific clinics in rural Victoria. We offer a comprehensive, evidence-based approach tailored to each individual's needs. Our services include thorough assessments throughout the rehabilitation process and symptom-specific rehabilitation designed to promote recovery and improve overall cognitive and physical function for those suffering from concussion, headache or migraine. We're here to guide you safely back to daily activities such as school, work and/or sports, providing the knowledge and tools needed for a safe and effective recovery.

At our clinics, we understand the complex nature of concussions, headaches and migraines, and consider this in our comprehensive approach to assess, treat, and manage symptoms to ensure safe and effective recovery. We offer individualised care plans focusing on symptom management, exercise tolerance, coordination, vestibular/ocular dysfunction, neck and whiplash symptoms, whilst educating patients on safe return-to-activity and/or sport protocols. Whether you're an athlete, student, or employee we aim to empower you with the knowledge and tools you need to manage your symptoms and safely return to your daily activities.

What we can offer as a concussion clinic.

Physiotherapists at our clinics have completed further training in concussion, headache and migraine management and treatment. Please see below for what our clinics currently offer, and do not offer, to clients.

What we DO offer for concussion patients

  • A thorough assessment of your concussion, headache or migraine symptoms, exercise capacity, balance, coordination, neck and cervical spine dysfunction, dizziness, visual capabilities, vestibular dysfunction, neurocognitive abilities, memory recall, and reaction time.
  • Treatment for the above using physiotherapy-specific techniques such as soft tissue and joint mobilisation, dry needling, exercise prescription, balance and coordination exercises, neurocognitive re-training, cervical spine rehabilitation, visual and vestibular exercises.
  • Comprehensive individual baseline screening tests, completed in clinic or remotely.
  • Treatment and guidance for the management of persistent concussion symptoms (PCS).
  • Return to school, work and sports guidance.
  • Sleep hygiene management.
  • Lifestyle and pacing strategies.

What we DO NOT offer for concussion patients

  • A diagnosis of concussion. This is required from a certified medical practitioner (doctor) of the client's choosing prior to attending an initial consultation. A referral can be brought with you to your initial appointment, or it can be sent to admin@bendigoconcussion.com.au or admin@ballaratconcussion.com.au. A referral is not required if the concussion occurred more than four weeks ago.
  • A final return-to-play clearance. Our clinics provide rehabilitation until the final hurdle of return to contact training and competition. At that stage a medical professional (doctor) is required to provide a signed clearance form for the athlete. We help guide this process to assist with a smooth return to play.

Billing & referral

Please note, we are not a Medicare bulk billing clinic. We do currently provide services to TAC and WorkSafe compensable clients. Our services are privately billed, therefore we are able to process private health and sporting injury insurance claims.
